The Emergency Aid Association is very active in providing support services, both State-funded and locally sponsored programs, to town residents, including:

-Financial aid for winter heating costs
-Elderly Renter's Rebate
-Friendly Visitor/Shopper programs for seniors who are homebound
-Meals-on-Wheels provides homebound clients with nutrition on a daily basis, weekends if needed

The success of these programs depends on volunteers. Please let us know if you would like to serve your neighbors in the community.

The Suffield Emergency Aid Association, Janet Frechette, Dir, provides information to clients on available social services programs and makes referrals to appropriate outside resources. In addition to the Town's Social Services the following organizations provide additional support.

In 2003, The Suffield Emergency Aid Association celebrated its 100th year of service to the Suffield Community. Emergency Aid is an independent non-profit organization that provides health and social services which positively affect the well-being of Suffield's residents during periods of family or personal need. Emergency Aid provides: medical subsidies, food pantry, medical equipment loans, holiday baskets, blood pressure screenings, medical transportation, meal subsidies, immunizations, preschool vision and hearing screenings, babysitting courses and much more.

The Suffield VNA is a branch of Saint Francis Hospital Home Care. VNA provides services to homebound residents who require nursing or therapy to be rehabilitated to their maximum potential. The VNA provides hospice services to Suffield residents who require it. VNA employs nurses, physical therapists, contract speech therapists and occupational therapists, medical social worker, and home health aids. Services include blood pressure screening, cholesterol clinics, flu vaccine clinics, well child clinics, workshops for handicapped individuals, and babysitting and childbirth classes.

Established May 26, 1965 under the General Connecticut Statutes, the Suffield Housing Authority provides unsubsidized housing to elderly and disabled people capable of independent living. Elderly is defined as age 62 or over. Income limites apply and determine monthly rental fees. Fees are determined annually to reflect changes in residents' expenses, especially medical expenses incurred during the previous year. The Housing Authority administers 70 units of elderly and/or handicapped housing at Maple Court, Laurel Court, and Broder Place, all located off of Bridge Street. The members of the Authority work toward providing comfortable living conditions for its residents.

The Housing Authority of the Town of Suffield meets on the second Tuesday of each month throughout the year. The meetings are held in the Recreation Room at Maple Court, 81 Bridge Street, at 6:30 p.m.
