Highway Department

The Highway Department is responsible for all maintenance services for the Town except for routine maintenance at the schools. The regular services of the department include:

-Plowing, sanding, roadside mowing, sweeping, tree trimming and other maintenance along 70 road miles and paved areas of Town offices and schools
-Mowing, weed control, planting and irrigation of over 140 acres of Town lawns, park fields, and playing fields.
-General and seasonal maintenance at Town parks and recreation facilities
-Building maintenance, repair, and moving services at Town buildings
-Transporting the trash and recycling dumpsters from the Landfill to Hartford
-Seasonal leaf collections and bulky waste pick-up

The Highway Department is on call for all emergencies, 24 hours, 7 days, when called upon by the Police Department. It has a crew of 13 men. The Department has two trained firefighters among its crew who respond to daytime fire alarms for the Suffield Fire Department.
