    4/6/2016 - Hilltop Farm Invites Proposals to Lease Agricultural Land

    INVITATION TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS TO LEASE AGRICULTURAL LANDS AT

    HILLTOP FARM WEST

    IN SUFFIELD, CONNECTICUT

     

     The Town of Suffield will accept proposals from prospective lessees of the following:

     Lands suitable for agricultural uses for the production of food and fiber located at Hilltop Farm West in Suffield, Connecticut, that have been designated as agricultural lease areas by the Open Space Subcommittee.

     The above mentioned land consists of approximately 32.5 acres of tillable land located on the west side of Route 159, just south of Hickory Street.

     

    Special Requirement:

    Applicants will be required to submit a conservation plan for utilization of the land during the term of the lease.  The conservation plan should consider measures to minimize soil erosion and maintain the productivity of the land.  All types of agricultural activities (row crops, hay, nursery, etc.) will be considered.  Overall impact on the productivity and condition of the land by the submitted applications will be considered by the Town.  The lessee will be required to establish a permanent cover on the areas used at the end of the lease period.  The lessee will also be required to provide the Town a Certificate of Insurance with appropriate coverage.

     

    Proposals shall include:

    1. Farm contact name, address and phone number
    2. Proposed crop(s)
    3. Proposed lease rate per acre

     The period of the lease is to be four (4) years.  The submission of a proposal shall not be binding on the Town of Suffield, nor does it constitute a competitive bid.  The right is reserved to reject any and all proposals not in the best interest of the Town.
