2/28/2017 - Suffield Police Department Sponsors Training with Regional Partners to Increase Roadway Safety involving Commercial Vehicles

Subject: Suffield Police Department sponsors training with regional partners to increase roadway safety involving commercial vehicles

On February 27, 2017, the Suffield Police Department sponsored advanced training class for regional area police departments to promote Commercial Motor Vehicle Awareness. This one day training, presented by Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Inspectors from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Division, trained local and state police officers on how to recognize common violations on trucks and other commercial vehicles and how to enforce safety laws such as equipment violations, mechanical violations, and truck specific regulations.

Student police officers attending were from the Avon, Canton, East Granby, Enfield, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, and of course Suffield Police Departments as well as state law enforcement officers from the CT State Police and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Division.

The attending officers participated in classroom lecture and training in Suffield then traveled to the Town of East Granby where a practical field exercise was held at the East Granby Department of Public Works.

Residents and community members may file a Citizen Request for Traffic Enforcement to address traffic and highway safety concerns by visiting the Town of Suffield website at suffieldct.gov. Go to Town Department to access the Police Department webpage and follow the links to the “Records and Activity Logs” Key Link.

For questions about seatbelt laws, child safety seat installation and laws, or any other roadway safety concerns you may have, please feel free to contact the Suffield Police Department at (860) 668 3370.
