Building Code Board of Appeals
Pursuant to subsection (a) of section 29266 of the Connecticut General Statutes, the Building Code Board of Appeals is established as follows. When the building official rejects or refuses to approve the mode or manner of construction proposed to be followed or the materials to be used in the erection or alteration of a building or structure, or when it is claimed that the provisions of the state building code do not apply or that an equally good or more desirable form of construction can be employed in a specific case, or when it is claimed that the true intent and meaning of the state building code has been misconstrued or wrongly interpreted, the permit, in whole or in part, having been refused by the building official, the owner of such building or structure, whether already erected or to be erected, or his authorized agent may appeal in writing from the decision of the building official to the board of appeals (Suff. Code, Art. III§5-43).
The Building Code Board of Appeals shall consist of five (5) members and alternate members (in accordance with Town ordinance) all of whom are appointed by the Board of Selectmen to serve a term of four (4) years. Such members of the Building Code Board of Appeals are not required to be electors of the Town of Suffield and all members must be qualified according to the specifications of the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut (Suff. Code, Art. III§5-41, 5-42 as modified by Town Charter).
