Historic District Commission
The Historic District Commission was established in order to promote the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the town of Suffield through the preservation and protection of buildings and places of historic interest by the maintenance of such as landmarks in the history of the town (Suff. Code, Art. V§14-76).
The commission consists of five (5) regular members and three (3) alternate members who shall be appointed and resident electors of the town holding no salaried municipal office. Not less than three (3) of the five (5) regular members of the Historic District Commission shall be residents within the Historic District and not less than one (1) of the three (3) alternative members shall be a resident of Historic District. Terms are four (4) years in length (Suff. Code, Art V§ 14-78 as modified by Town Charter).
The Suffield Historic District Handbook answers many common questions regarding projects affecting a historic building. To confirm if a home falls within the Suffield Historic District, refer to the handbook or use the Map of the Suffield Historic District.
